Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition 6: Smart Shipping
Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, will work with the Department for Transport to invest up to £30 million in innovation projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping.
These will be to carry out innovative pre-deployment trials and feasibility studies.
The Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC) Round 6 is part of a suite of interventions launched by the UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE). UK SHORE aims to transform the UK into a global leader in the design and manufacturing of clean maritime technology.
The aim of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 6 is to fund pre-deployment trials and feasibility studies into clean maritime technologies and skills that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Your proposal must focus on clean maritime technology.
This competition is split into 3 strands:
- Strand 1: Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 6 – Pre-deployment trials

Strand 2: Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 6 – Feasibility studies
- Strand 3: Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 6 – Smart Shipping (this strand)
It is your responsibility to ensure you submit your application to the correct strand for your project. You will not be able to transfer your application and it will not be sent for assessment if it is out of scope.
The aim of Strand 3 is to fund detailed feasibility studies and pre-deployment projects focused on using digital technologies to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality in the maritime transport sector.
Your project must conduct either a technical and economic feasibility study or a pre-deployment project based on Smart Shipping technologies. Smart Shipping technologies within the scope of this competition are detailed in the specific themes section under the scope tab.
If your proposal is not related to Smart Shipping, please review the Strand 1 or Strand 2 competition pages.
In applying to this competition, you are entering into a competitive process. This competition has a funding limit, so we may not be able to fund all the proposed projects. It may be the case that your project scores highly but we are still unable to fund it.
