Graduate entrepreneurs release period cup cleaning case

Kira Goode and Monica Wai, two graduates from the University of Bristol’s Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, have launched a product designed to make sustainable period care more practical and inclusive.

Their startup, Eleria, has just released a portable menstrual cup cleaning and sterilisation case — a compact, discreet solution to a key barrier preventing many from switching to reusable menstrual products: how to clean and sterilise them in public or shared spaces.

🌿 In the UK alone, over 4.3 billion disposable period products are used and discarded every year. While menstrual cups are a greener alternative, Monica and Kira’s research revealed that the lack of convenient, hygienic cleaning options often stops people from making the switch.

Their new case, made in the UK from medical-grade silicone and recycled plastic, is designed to:

  • Fit discreetly into even the smallest handbags

  • Allow users to clean cups easily in public restrooms

  • Enable quick, simple, and hygienic sterilisation in shared living spaces

🗣️ “We are excited that the experience of the user is finally going to be taken into account when it comes to sustainable period products," said Monica and Kira. "We hope to see a positive impact on menstruators as well as the planet.”

Eleria also offers five variations of menstrual cups and worked closely with independent testers ahead of the launch. One participant said:

“It was a relief to finally have something that will sort out this problem for me… I just can’t believe why this wasn’t done sooner.”

👏 This is a brilliant example of how user-focused innovation and sustainability can come together to solve real-world problems — with dignity, care, and design in mind.
